About us

Lufthansa is one of the world's largest and most prestigious airlines. With hubs in Frankfurt and Munich, we currently fly to 211 destinations in 74 countries.

As an industry innovator, we have long been committed to environmental care and sustainability, operating one of the most technologically-advanced and fuel-efficient fleets in the world. Our long-haul fleet includes the Boeing 747-8 and the Airbus A350-900, which are some of the most environmentally-friendly passenger aircraft in the aviation industry.

For Lufthansa Group, the development and use of Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF) are a key step on the path to carbon-neutral aviation. The fundamental concept behind SAF is to replace fossil fuels over the long-term using sustainable alternatives.

We are convinced that more sustainable air travel can enable people, cultures, and economies to stay connected in future. That is why we are investing all our expertise and energy in making carbon-neutral flying a reality by 2050.

Products & Services

It is hard to imagine today’s world without flying. So it is all the more important to take responsibility and travel with awareness. We are convinced that more sustainable air travel can enable people, cultures, and economies to stay connected in future.

That is why Lufthansa Group is investing all expertise and energy in making carbon-neutral flying a reality by 2050. It is an ambitious goal – but we want to play our part and lead our sector on the path to a more sustainable future. With #MakeChangeFly we are consolidating our commitment to achieving a balance between air travel and the environment. Through Compensaid, we are enabling our passengers to offset their carbon emissions by using Sustainable Aviation Fuel or long-term climate-protection projects, in cooperation with the highly respected myclimate foundation, for example. Whether it is when booking or later, through Compensaid passengers can personally decide to opt for Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF), to support certified carbon-offsetting projects, or simply select a combination of both

Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF): Aircraft need fuel. But fuel does not need to be fossil

For many years the Lufthansa Group has been one of the largest purchasers of SAF. By using SAF, customers of the Lufthansa Group can already fly CO2-neutral today. In addition, they can document their reduced CO2 emissions with audited certificates and have the CO2 savings credited to their individual CO2 balance.

AeroSHARK: Modern Fleet with Innovative Technology

The Lufthansa Group continuously invests in a modern and particularly fuel-efficient fleet.
By 2030 we will have at least 190 fuel-efficient aircraft in service.
Technological advances are playing an important role for us in the modernization of the existing fleet too. For example, AeroSHARK is a bionic adhesive film that replicates the skin of sharks and optimizes airflow aerodynamics in particular places, thus reducing friction.

Reducing waste and plastics: The greatest impact leaves no trace behind

We are focusing intensively on all the ways of reducing waste, based on the principles of “reduce – reuse – recycle – replace” as we develop products and inflight services. We are minimizing everything unnecessary and promoting sustainable design in our on-board products.
By 2025 we are aiming to gradually replace single-use plastic articles with more sustainable materials.
